Description
The British Cycling Level 1 MTB Leadership Award is a one-day training course which includes an assessment of the following areas:
- Essential leader equipment
- Effective puncture repairs
- Equipment set-up and safety checks
- Fundamental mountain bike techniques
- Bike games
- Techniques for effective group management
- Accident and emergency procedures
As it is a site-specific course, the centre’s existing procedures, such as Emergency Action Procedures, are incorporated into the training. This will provide the leaders the skills necessary to operate within their specific environment.
The assessment for this course will be ongoing throughout the day and upon successful completion of the required criteria. Staff will be signed off by WyeMTB and provided with feedback.
Your staff will be trained to a standard that enables them to lead introductory level mountain bike rides on limited pre-determined routes, in a safe and enjoyable environment. This limits the level of route planning and navigation skills required by the individual and places greater emphasis on the centre’s standard operating procedures.
This one day training will allow up to 8 on the course, so it’s an effective way to get your staff trained up on the terrain that they will be leading groups on. This allows consistency of the leaders and an understanding of the individual centre’s expectations whilst leading group rides.
Delivered by David Windebank, British Cycling MTB Leadership Tutor of the Year, 2020, you will be in safe hands! He has extensive outdoor centre experience as well as an ex-tutor of BTEC Outdoor Education.
