Description
Our Premier Mountain Bike Adventure based across South Wales – The Dragon Trail
The trip is based in three unique locations across South Wales: the Wye Valley, the Black Mountains and the South Wales Valleys, home to the legendary Cwm Carn trail centre. Your car will be left in a secure car park for the 3 days. Your luggage will be shuttled from the start of the ride to the accommodation each day.
Breakfast and lunch will be provided. All you will need to do is decide what welsh classic you will eat on the evening at the accomodation.
The Dragon Trail – Day 1: The Wye Valley Single track, ancient Bridleways
25km – 30km, 1000m ascent
After pedalling along the Lower Wye Valley, you will be met by Wye MTB transport to shuttle you up the first climb. The first descent of the trip will be mellow and allow you time to settle into your three days mountain bike adventure based in South Wales.
The Wye Valley has miles of singletrack, double track and rolling hills to keep you entertained for the whole day. What goes down must come up and the Wye Valley has some good steep climbs, so please pack those climbing legs! At the end of the day you will be transferred over to your first night’s accommodation in the Brecon Beacons.
The Dragon Trail – Day 2: The Black Mountains; Big mountain day, challenging climbs and amazing back country descents
30km – 35 km, 1400m acsent
Day two makes use of a A to B style trip, the WyeMTB transport will take the sting out of the first climb and drop you at the top. This allows you to focus on the descent into the beautiful Grwyne Fawr valley, this valley sees very little tourism and is a real hidden treat of South Wales.
The day will focus on valley hopping. Once you descend into the valley you will be greeted with a pleasant climb back out to the ridgeline of Waun Fach. From here you will traverse the ridge and drop 250m into the village of Llanbedr. MBR magazine have given this descent the award of ‘best natural descent in Wales’. The ride then moves up the Grwyne Fechan valley towards the Pen Trumau summit at 707m. Being this high means only one thing, the final descent is a banger! Ending up at the van, you will then be transferred to this evening’s accommodation.
The Dragon Trail – Day 3: The South Wales Valleys; Classic Ridge ride finishing at the World class Trail centre of Cwmcarn
25km – 30km, 1000m ascent
Day three offers an easier day for those tired legs with slightly less climbing but the same amazing views, great single track and good chat. The WyeMTB transport will once again take the sting out of the first climb by delivering you to the top.
The route follows the most western ridgeline down to Pontypool where you will be met by some of the best natural riding the Valleys has to offer. We then head to Cwmcarn trail centre, for some manmade fun before heading back to your vehicles.
You’ll be packing as much riding in as possible on this mini-break. Where we offer you the chance to ride some of the best trails that South Wales has to offer in this fully supported package..
